Try this:

ELECTROLUX

The type with a canister that you pull behind you. The uprights I find are to bulky and can’t get around furniture and stuff.

  1. I just bought one–it’s really good–I have two dogs that shed like you wouldn’t believe. Was going for the Dyson Animal, but found that with all the attachments you’dneed , it would be at least 600 bucks-we ended up getting the Kenmore canister, the orange one. It was in the $ 300’s and it works great. It has all the attachments on board and the small one that is used to clean upholstery has a real beater bar in it, so it’s like a tiny little hand-held. I’m very pleased with my purchase! The shop vac didn’t do the trick–not enough power for dog hair.

  2. Consumer Reports March 2007–Upright vacuums
#1 Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive $ 300. Also is CR Best Buy.
    #2 Hoover Windtunnel 2 $ 250.

    #16 Dyson DC14 Animal $ 570
    #17 Dyson DC15 The Ball ALL FLOORS $ 500.

The most expensive upright vaccum is Aerus Lux Legacy $ 1,000. It is rated # 25.
They rated a total of 40 vacuums.
    Hope this helps..

  3. The Dyson Animal, though pricey, is still sucking the paint off the walls after two years (me – long hair, Pomeranian, cat). They require minimum maintenance, no bags, and have top-notch service. If mine ever dies, I will run to buy another one. FYI, the yellow model is exactly the same, but without the attachments (which I rarely use) and is maybe $ 100 cheaper.

  4. have always had an Electrolux but wanted an upright, tried hoover and another one but all they did was bust belts all the time
it was very aggrevating, finally talked to vacuum cleaner shop and told him about all the animals and fur and he suggested the Panasonic…we really like it, not too heavy, cleans good and doesn’t break belts

  5. We have three dogs and two cats used to have four dogs so I guess that counts us as pet owners. We also have a Dyson and love it. Ours is the purple one. Been using it for about four years now.
