I bought a 12amp dirt devil upright from Wal Mart for around $ 150. Works as good as my $ 1200 Rainbow did before it blew up.
What do you think? Answer below!
Get a Used Kirby From A Vacuum Repair Place… They Are Good! Or Get a Dyson From Target They are Good!
I agree that Kirby is the best vacuum cleaner you can buy. However, it is very heavy therefore making the attachments difficult to attach and remove. I use Kirby on all my carpeted areas. I purchase my bags on eBay. The last order I paid about 1.00 per bag. I use about 40 per year with my multiple animals. I vacuum twice a day because of the animals. The hair is outrageous from my German Shepherds.
I then purchased a Sanitaire on-line for 119.00. It is lightweight, powerful, and very easy to utilize on my wood floors. I use the round brush and other attachments from my Kirby on my Sanitaire because the quality is by far better. They have the same hose size so they are interchangeable. I use the Sanitaire to vacuum baseboards with my round Kirby brush. Sears has a magnificent Upholstery Brush (gray in color) standard size (about 8.00) and I use if for all my upholstery needs. The Saintaire is not for your carpets. Too much work. It is very difficult to find a vacuum that is perfect all around.
When I purchased my Kirby Generation 3 in the 90’s I paid about 1600.00. My daughter moved out and wanted a Kirby. I went shopping and found a used Kirby Generation 3 at my local repair shop. It ran me 400.00. It was in mint condition and came with all the attachments including the dry cleaning attachments. It had all the original manuals.
What makes the Kirby special is that is drives itself. You do not have to put effort into pushing it. You guide it. What I like about the Sanitaire is its power, lightweight, and portability to get into closets, the car, and moving around vacuuming ceilings, baseboards, and furniture.
I use to be an Electrolux fan. However, the long style tank is very heavy but the motorized carpet attachment was wonderful. I don’t feel is has the power a Kirby or a Sanitaire has. I have the little red Sanitaire. They advertise the little machine as a commercial style. It is like the old Eureka Mighty Mite but has by far more power.
I do not like an upright vacuum with all the attachments on it. They are cumbersome and heavy. The suction for the hose attachment is not powerful enough. Also, you have to drag that upright behind you with the hose attached. What a disaster when mine when falling down the staircase. I had a weak moment when I bought it.
Hope this helps in your hunt for a vacuum that fits your needs. Try them out first.

I have a Hoover Wind tunnel 12amp with attachments. It does a great job on carpet and furniture. I paid $ 139 at Walmart
