Best vacuum for dog hair?

9

I’m just wondering what people would recommend for dog hair. My dog sheds like crazy. last year for christmas, I had asked my parents for a vacuum that would work well with dog hair. They bought me a Hoover Windtunnel Cyclonic, which I just don’t think was meant for all this dog hair b/c it does not do a great job. What do you use and do you like it? Prices would be good to know as well.
I need vacuum that 1) picks up the dog hair but also 2) doesn’t break and stop sucking from being clogged with dog hair.

  1. I’m cursed when it comes to vacuum cleaners. I’ve actually spent over 700 dollars on one that was used three times before it stopped working, so if you choose one, let me know if it works 🙂

  2. I have the Dyson DC14 Animal. They are pricey ($500-ish), but work great! I would recommend it to anyone.

  3. Having a hairless dog, I dont have this problem.

I’ve heard lots of good things from rescue folk about the Dyson Animal tho.. Im not sure of the price offhand, but I wanna say around $300-400.

  4. If your cat or dog is shedding, vacuum cleaning can be a chore. The best vacuum cleaners for pet hair are bagless pet vacuum cleaners with a revolving brush. More full-featured models include hose attachments like upholstery brushes and powered hand tools.

The Dirt Devil Reaction Soft Touch is the best. Its about $100, but its worth it

  5. I love the bissel pet eraser vacuum. I have two dogs, a pit/weimariner and a boxer/staff who shed like crazy despite their shorter hair. This vacuum picks it all up with no problems.

  6. I also have the Dyson animal and I love it. It gets up the dog hair and it doesn’t lose suction. I was apprehensive when I got it but it works great. easy to clean, no bag or filters, great machine.

  7. I was without a vacuum for a few weeks, and borrowed my neighbor’s dyson animal vac (the purple one). Admittedly, it was awesome, but I choked a little at the thought of spending 600 bucks on a vacuum. I then, out of desperation, bought a Eureka True Clean with the Pet power paw attachment from walmart for around 70 bucks. It works BETTER on the pet hair than my neighbor’s dyson did, especially on the furniture. It’s not the most user friendly design, and it’s noisy as heck, it’s ugly, and worse of all it’s a Eureka which doesn’t have a great company reputation, but you know, this one does a very good job and gets rid of ALL the hair. I gave her the dyson back and have enjoyed the money I saved. I have 6 dogs, all indoors, collies, an aussie, and a pom, all long haired heavy shedding breeds, and three indoor cats as well, plus I also do dog grooming out of my home, I vacuum a LOT, and that 70 dollar vacuum has been the best walmart find ever.

    Good luck!
    Vintage Collies

  8. I have a Kirby upright vac and it picks up everything and I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. Really strong suction.
It is heavy though as it’s built from steel parts and the cost is fairly up there. I was lucky and got an ex demonstration model for a little over $1,000 but still had to pay it off at the time. You could always ask for a deal on an ex demo model too.

I went through 6 of the darn vacuum cleaners before I got the Kirby.

It won’t break down on you. You can bash it around like crazy and you won’t cause any damage. There is some maintenance but it’s mostly the bags, small O shaped belt and a new brush every 5 years or so. Some places offer service agreements which cost you the earth but you don’t need it with a Kirby as it’s pretty much indestructible.

I’ve had mine now for around 7 years and it just keeps on going and not one single service call needed.

If you can afford it, this is one of the best cleaners on the market.
